These changes often include developing or an increased sensitivity to light, the first symptoms of the thirst, a growing attraction for the night and darkness and for some a feeling of isolation as the changes in their nature remove them from what is considered "normal". The process of awakening often occurs after the onset of puberty or later. For some it takes years for the awakening process to come to completion. Other Vampyres, sometimes through the exchange of blood, can activate the awakening but sometimes the awakening occurs on its own with out activation by other sources. (See also Latent Vampyre)

Clinical vampirism: A psychological condition, also referred to as Renfield's Syndrome, in which the afflicted person experiences a psychological urge to drink blood. This urge is often satisfied with their own blood, and sufferers of Renfield's Syndrome typically bear slashes from razors and knives up and down their arms from where they have drawn blood from themselves. This condition is similar to a new pathology, known as SMS, or Self-Mutilation Syndrome, which is becoming alarmingly common in American youths.

Court: A gathering of Vampyres, usually arranged and hosted by respected members (elders, clan leaders, mentors, etc) of the Vampyre Community. Can be specific to cities or be open to Vampyres in an entire state, or even several states.

Haematophilia: An erotic attraction to the taste, sight (or smell) of blood.

Hunting: 1) The act of seeking out donors by Vampyres. (Also called stalking one's prey.) In days long past, our ancestors hunted in the true sense of this word. Since then it was discovered that there humans that are perfectly happy to donate us, so 'the hunt' in it's true sense became unnecessary.
2) The act of slayers and hunters in pursuit of a Vampyre or Vampyres. They should not be taken lightly as they have every intent to cause harm and death.

Mentor: A guide and teacher to a new or inexperienced Vampyre; the one(s) who helped them through the awakening.

Nephilim, The: A rather widespread belief within the Vampyric community, which asserts that Vampyres are the inheritors of the Nephilim. The Nephilim are demi-human beings who were sired by angels, as told in Enoch I, a book that was dropped from the Bible in the early stages of its canonization.

Of the Blood: A term sometimes used to refer to someone as being a Vampyre.

Play Fighting: Behavior often exhibited by young or awakening Vampyres. Includes wrestling, punching, biting, clawing, scratching, kicking, and other behavior seen in individuals during a confrontation. The difference is that in this instance the behavior is not serious, meaning the Vampyres are not genuinely trying to harm each other. Similar to behavior exhibited by young predators in the wild and it serves a similar function.

Porphyria: An acute medical condition which, has been postulated by some scholars to have inspired the Vampyre myths of the past. Most Psi (or energy) Vampyres feed upon chi or pranic energy and don't drink blood, except for in the beginning when they are still young and learning their abilities. Psi-Vampyres exhibit the same characteristics that distinguish other real Vampyres, including light sensitivity, a nocturnal lifestyle, and periods of the Hunger or Thirst. Emotional and Elemental Vampyres are considered subtypes of Psys.(See also Types of Vampyres).

Psionics: The practice of using psi abilities.

Psychic attack: An aggressive action against another using psychic ability.

Role-player: 1) Someone who engages in role-playing games (RPGs).
2) This is often used as a derogatory term for those who play Vampire: The Masquerade or similar Vampire RPGs and/or who pretend to be a Vampyre in their free time when they are not. RPGers are also associated with posers and other fakes who dress the part and pretend to be something they are not. (See also Poser, Vampyre Lifestyler, Wannabe). [However, by this definition I am not saying that all Role Players think they are the character they play in their RPGs.]

Sanguinarian: Someone who has a physical need for blood, which is non-erotic in nature. Sanguinarians (from the Latin root meaning "bloodthirsty") usually are unable to feed like Psi/energy Vampyres, though some exhibit Psi as well as Sanguinarian Vampirism abilities. (See also Types of Vampyres).

Satanism: The worship of devils, demons, incarnations of evil. Used the ritual referred to as Black Mass.

Succubus: The female version of the Incubus. (See also Types of Vampyres)

Sympathetic vampirism: A condition that sometimes occurs in people who have been fed from too often. This usually occurs in the donors of psy vamps but can also be found among the donors of sangs as well. In general, some one with this condition experiences such a depletion of energy that they have to resort to vampyrism themself in order to replenish them. In addition to a need to feed, those with sympathetic vampyrism may show symptoms commonly associated with real vampyrism, such as heightened senses and sensitivity to sunlight. This condition may last for a few weeks, although sometimes it can be drawn out for months or years. The best course of action is for the Vampyre or Vampyres who feed from the person to stop completely. Without the constant depletion of resources, the person's system should gradually correct itself over time.

Tendril: An extension of the aura that is used to reach out and latch on to another person's aura. Some use tendrils for feeding and for scanning.

Thirst, The: (See the article "The Thirst")

Vampyrecrafte: Most Vampyres practice numerous techniques associated with energy manipulation. Many also practice some form of magick, most often ritual magick or chaos magick.

Vampyre's Kiss, A: The process by which a Vampyre takes blood from a donor.

Vampyre lifestyler: Similar to posers and role-players but these individuals take it to the extreme. They go so far as to mimic the Vampyres portrayed in fiction, pale their faces, wear dark clothing as well as clothing from the Renaissance and Victorian periods. They even go so far as to set up "clans" and "havens" for their lot. They are not to be confused with Real Vampyres, though their deception can be rather skillful, so beware.

Wannabe: Derogatory term for someone who wants to become a Vampyre, usually with unrealistic expectations of what it would be like. Many are attracted by a false vision of Vampyres and their "powers", as they are portrayed in fiction. They usually fail to look at the practical side of becoming a Vampyre, such as necessary changes in lifestyle, finding sources to feed from, and trying to hold a job while balancing one's Vampyric nature with daily life, etc.

Warlock: An oathbreaker.

Witch: Term that refers to those that practice Wicca. The male form is Priest. It is often incorrectly to apply to people that practice magic.

Wizard: Another term used to refer to individuals that practice magic.
